March is birthday month here in Chez Tracey – I’m on the 12th and Sarah is the 24th – so there were a couple of posh meals out, and this month not much else. We both blame the rain.
Discoveries of the month
Sunshine Coast Sourdough Co.
Tucked into the back of a mechanics yard off Kayleigh Drive in Maroochydore is Sunshine Coast Sourdough Co. It’s only open a couple of days a week – Wednesday mornings and Saturday mornings – but there’s always a queue and they run out fast.
The bread is fabulous, the sausage rolls very good indeed, and the Hot Cross Buns? Well worth queuing for.
There was a time I frequented this place – it was years ago so when it first opened and the Harmony Estate was still being built. Back then I’d go to do some work and have a coffee, but there was no real food menu as such and I stopped going sometime around the first COVID lockdown.
Sarah has recently moved into this suburb, however, so I’ve ventured back over here – and now it’s a fave for writing and a brew or writing and brekky or just brekky.
Sarah tells me the chilli scrambled eggs are a must try – and their burgers have recently been voted best on the coast, so maybe I should give them a try some time too.
And the best bit? The tea they serve is one of my faves – Yorkshire tea.
Birthday Dinners
For my birthday, we tried Soka, a Japanese restaurant in Maroochydore. We went with the banquet so we could try lots of things. The Coffin Bay oysters with yuzu chilli granita and sashimi taco (not pictured) were the bites of the night – closely followed by the corn and the kingfish.
We celebrated Sarah’s lunch at Sum Yung Guys – a favourite of ours in Noosaville. Again we shared the dishes between us all – Sarah and my favourite was the prawn toast with gochujang mayo. Grant’s choice was the kingfish sashimi. We even shared a single dessert – mango with sticky rice.
This place books out ahead for a reason, so if ever you’re on the Sunshine Coast …

hmm yum, lots of interesting dishes! Looks like you managed to squeeze in some fab birthday celebrations
The Japanese place was new to all of us – some hits and a miss (the zucchini was meh).
you’re very good at trying new things – I find I tend to keep going back to the same restaurants and cafes and then wonder why I get bored with them
Both your birthday meals look fabulous.
What a delicious looking month! That sourdough place sounds fantastic.
All of the dishes look so good and I love the idea of sharing a little bit of this and that. It’s so much better than filling up on just one entree.
Happy belated birthday! The food looks amazing, as usual. What also caught my eye was the china the hot cross bun was served on – beautiful pattern!!!

Thanks Deb, it’s part of a vintage Doulton breakfast set.
The food looks amazing, and I think I would frequent the Sunshine Coast Sourdough Co. a lot 🙂
It’s a great bakery for sure.
Oh my goodness, how yummy does all that look???
Happy belated birthday, Jo. It looks like you celebrated with style.
Thanks!
Hi Jo – I always enjoy your food pics – all the deliciousness but with no calories. I think I’d enjoy having a coffee at Cafe Harmony just to admire the artwork – very vibrant indeed!
So many beautifully prepared dishes. Like little plates of art. Sure beats the McDonald’s hamburgers PC craves!!
This made me giggle 🙂
