Easy like Sunday morning…

Sunday March 16, 2025

One thing we’ve learnt about road-tripping over the years is to program in “nothing” days. Easy days where the car doesn’t get used, where it’s okay to faff about for a bit, take a longer than usual walk, watch a little TV in front of the fire, indulge in a Sunday roast.

So that’s what we did today. It’s grey outside today and even though the temperature says it’s a little warmer than it was yesterday, it doesn’t feel like it.

After watching James Martin’s Saturday Kitchen (he did a sea bass with ratatouille I must try when we get home – although obviously not with sea bass, given we can’t get that – we walk down to the lake.

Lunch is at The Crown. Good veg, but the pork belly is a little dry and the crackling non-existent. We’re getting fussy about our Sunday roasts. We shared a pear and cinnamon crumble which was good enough to make up for the lack of crackling.

Another walk and then an easy afternoon by the fire. Grant watched the football and I read Kate Humble’s book, Home-made.

Tomorrow we’re off to Inverness and will be staying in a hotel rather than self-catering, so we need to run down our supplies. Dinner was toast and jam and whatever cheesy bits we found in the fridge.

The stats…

Temperature: 0-8

Miles travelled: none*

*Even though we work in kms in Australia, all signage in the UK is in miles, so that’s what I’m going with.

  1. That sounds wonderful! We rarely have do nothing days on a trip but I do at least try to plan a morning to sleep in and an afternoon to relax and nap (just usually not on the same day!).

    1. These days I schedule them in – especially if we’re away for a bit and doing a lot of miles.

    1. It was… and it was grey, but no rain. We didn’t need our rain jackets for the entire 5 weeks we were there.

      1. Wow! I went to the UK for 3 weeks in May once. I bought a brand new umbrella I was eager to show off. I never opened it!!

      2. The friend we stayed with in Dorset kept messaging me telling me it had to rain in Wales and then it had to rain in Scotland, but… nope.

  2. What a lovely day! We can’t overestimate the importance of these relaxing days even on vacation.
