Street Art in Penang

I’m on holidays and, as such, I wasn’t going to post today. While you’ll need to wait until I’m home for the lowdown on Penang, I can manage a few street art pics from my iPad.

These are all in and around the UNESCO listed heritage part of old Penang. There’s a fabulously colourful history here that we’ll talk about when I’m home, but for now, here is some of the street art around the old town. Many, but not all of these were commissioned in 2012 by Penang’s municipal council and were painted by London-trained Lithuanian artist, Ernest Zacharevic. The brief was to breathe new life into some of the Chinese shop-houses around the inner city and in doing so create a mirror of sorts to life in Penang.

Not all the art below was part of that commission, but I love it regardless…
