So anyways, I’m interrupting my usual broadcast to tell you about a really special place to stay- Fauhope Country House.
Located just outside Melrose, I’d chosen this place as one of our “special” places- you know, those spots that you choose on holidays that have that something extra, that make you feel like you’re being spoiled. Fauhope did all of that.
Run by Ian and Sheila Robson- who are just too lovely- everything you could think of… and more, has already been thought of.
From the furnishings, to the soft furnishings, to the art on the walls, to the art on the tables, to the Christmas decorations, to the evening sherry, to the magazines, to the candles in the bath, to the breakfasts, to the…I’m running out of breath, and I’m sure that you get the idea.
Sheila has already popped the Christmas decorations up, and it’s sumptuously festive. She has filled the entrance hall with the most amazing flower display, and my favourite painting- a highland “coo”.
In the bedroom, an extra bed was set up for Sarah by the time we got back from walking around town. A little carafe of sherry was set out, and the heaters all turned on, and bed turned down to welcome us back after dinner.
And yes, that bed was as sinkably comfortable as it looked.
The same attention to detail was obvious in the ensuite,
and the drawing room- where I caught up on word count for my new manuscript, sipped sherry, and wrote a blog or two…
Within a few minutes drive are two restaurants. We chose Chapters- mainly because I wanted to try pheasant (it was good)- and weren’t disappointed. If you want to go into Melrose, it’s just a little further down the road, and has more options and a few lovely pubs.
As for brekky? Check out where we ate it. And breakfast itself? Let’s say we didn’t need lunch…

It looks lovely Jo and it does look like a very special place – just what you need when you’re on the road. A place that has the comfort and luxuries of home!
