5 things…

Okay, here we go, the random things that made me smile last week. As usual, there are more than five so don’t bother counting…

Derry Girls Season 2

The trailers are out and it looks to be as hilarious as season 1 was. Just check out this clip of the best bits of Sister Michael (I was going to share the hash scones at the wake one, but well, you can search for that yourselves on Youtube…)

This meme…

Says it all really.

Masterchef…

It’s over for another year. Don’t worry, if you’re reading this in NZ, no spoilers.

Apparently, this season has rated lower than previous seasons, yet I commented to Grant that I enjoyed it more than I have in previous seasons. I think it felt nicer – even though Masterchef is never really mean – and was more about the food and less about ridiculously technical unnecessary stuff done to desserts. I suspect though, that’s why people might have tuned out.

Anyways, I’ll miss it. I’ll also miss the three judges – Matt, Gary and George. Thanks for the last 11 seasons guys…and yes, I know George’s rep is pretty mucky at the moment (for good reason) but I’m talking about Masterchef now.

From the I told you so files…

This article in The Guardian proves that I’ve been eating Magnum ice creams the right way all these years – nibbling at the chocolate from the bottom right hand corner around to the top, then the sheets on the side and finally the ice cream. So there.

Stepping it up…

Sunrise from the hill at Alexandra Headland

As at the time of writing I’m sitting at over 80,000 steps for the week and am well on track to average 10,000 a day for July.

Because I sit on my bum most of the day and have very little incidental walking during the day I’ve had to double up or triple up each work day so I can have one weekend day off.

This weeks total was helped by a 10km walk on Friday morning.

The end of the rock wall at Mooloolaba

Artichokes…

I couldn’t resist buying a few of these when I saw them at the markets yesterday. We had them with some homemade hollandaise last night.

Wattle…

I’m really noticing it this year – I think because my lunchtime walks take me around our local are rather than down to the beach.

Anyways, here’s some more of nature’s gold – because we can all do with a little more yellow.

Weeds…

I know, I’m scraping the bottom of the photographic barrel, but I couldn’t help take a pic of these weeds the other day on yet another walk.

Scrub Turkeys…

There’s something going on with the scrub turkeys at the moment – they’re all much madder than usual…and there’s something quite funny and laugh aloud about seeing them run helter skelter along the beach path for no apparent reason. I suspect it could be “that” time of the year for them.

Spontaneous sausage sandwiches

After some good rewriting progress on Escape To Curlew Cottage on Friday morning, Grant and I (and @adventurespaniel) had an impromptu barbecue lunch at the park up in Buderim village.

Check out the view…

Looking forward…

I’m off on our (almost) annual “camping” trip next weekend to Eucumbene, down in the NSW Snowy Mountains. While we don’t actually camp, we do cook over campfires.

There’s no snow forecast this trip, but it should still be satisfactorily cold. More than that it’s a great catch-up with my brother and his family and a good opportunity to get a tad creative and competitive with campfire cooking.

Recipe of the week…

Okay, I’m just about out of space, but this Thai-Style chicken noodle soup by Nigella is quick and yummy and aside from that is also good for you in an accidentally actually quite healthy way.

It does have coconut milk in it, but only a small amount (200ml), so spread across a few serves it’s scarcely worth worrying about. I didn’t have noodles in mine so filled my bowl with green veg instead.

Anyways, you can find the recipe here.

Okay, that was my week…how was yours?

    1. You can head on into a new week knowing that you’ve already got something right. That’s a #winwin in my book…

  1. I’m a fan Jo and yes that is how I eat Magnums as well. I thought that was the right way! So proud of you with the 80,000 steps and your motivation to keep going. Your images always bring me joy and loved the collage at the beginning of your post – you have certainly brightened up my Monday morning. Have a lovely week, Jo. #lifethisweek

  2. I love that dog’s calendar. It definitely makes me smile and giggle. Well done with your 80,000 steps, Jo! They sure have taken you to some beautiful scenery. #lifethisweek

  3. The camping trip seems to always come around so quickly!

Well done on the walking. I’m doing appallingly at the moment.

And I’m with you on Derry Girls. I can’t wait!

  4. Hi Jo, The Dog’s calendar made me smile and is a great reminder. The photo Mooloolaba is extra stunning! Thank you for a feel good post:)

    1. You’re very welcome. I might be just a teeny bit biased but I happen to think Mooloolaba is the most beautiful beach in Australia…

  5. That soup looks so good and the dog meme is spot on! I can’t wait to watch Derry Girls Season 2 – I loved the first one so much. Good on you for getting your steps in, I’ve been seriously slacking! Happy Camping! I can’t wait to see what you cook over that stove 🙂

    1. I can’t wait for the cook-off…I’m doing a French braised chicken dish but I also want to try my crumpets and maybe a crumble. There’s also an Indian spiced jaffle I’m looking at.

  6. Make sure you pack your winter woolies Jo! Enjoy your trip and I’m sure you’ll get some great shots over the weekend. I love wattle too and even those weeds are pretty. I’m so keen for Derry Girls to start up and loved the clips they’ve been sharing 🙂 . #lifethisweek

    1. We were really hoping for snow, but sadly there’s none forecast. I suppose that means we’ll have to keep the beers in the fridge!

  7. Oh no. I eat a Magnum ALL WRONG! Maybe because my fav is the caramel one? How will I ever live with myself going forward? But i can say, I do eat them alone and savor the slowly. Oh, the dog calendar made me smile to. Have a great trip!

    1. I reckon I have 1 a year, if that – and then it’s a mini magnum. The funny thing is my husband gets stuck into Sarah and I every time about how we eat them & it turns out that we’re right & he’s wrong. So. There.

  8. As always, love your pics! The soup looks delish and reminds me I haven’t made laksa this winter. Must do that next week! The meme is hilarious! Turns out I’ve been eating magnums the right way too. Camping trip sounds fun {though I wouldn’t want to in the cold!} Can’t wait for season 2 of Derry Girls! The hash scones trailer is hilarious!!

    1. That hash scones trailer had me in absolute fits. Have a great weekend & hope you’re feeling better.

  9. Our country is so pretty, weeds and all. I took a photo of a huge weed the other day because it was in the shape of a mandala. Hope your time away goes well.

You are doing very well with your steps. Great stuff!

Thanks for linking up for #lifethisweek. Next week’s optional prompt is 31/51 Gratitude 5/8/19 I hope you can come on over and join in. Denyse.
