2017: The Word

Little child carrying a suitcase

Unless you’re new to this blog or have been living under a rock, we’re moving to the Sunshine Coast this year. It’s a mega sea-change that’s exciting and scary all at the same time.

How to find a word for 2017 that encapsulates all of that?

I applied some extreme logic to the task:

How do I want 2017 to be compared to 2016? Better. Hmmmm not much of a word.

What about a word that starts with the first letter of my name and finishes with the last? Joy? Yeah, nah….doesn’t really cut it.

Abundance? Tempting…but no.

I knew that I’d need tenacity and resilience to get through the move, but like buffer and commitment, they’re things that you do to get you through, not words for opportunity and possibility and sea-changing.

After struggling with the problem for more time than it warranted, I came to the realization that there was no other choice. I needed Indy.

I probably shouldn’t say this out loud, but Indiana Jones has been responsible for possibly too much of my wisdom. Snippets such as:

‘It’s not the years, honey. It’s the mileage.

‘Fortune and glory, kid. Fortune and glory.’

‘Snakes. Why’d it have to be snakes?’

‘Indiana Jones. I always knew someday you’d come walking back through my door. I never doubted that. Something made it inevitable.’

‘X never, ever marks the spot.’

‘There! X marks the spot!’

You see what we’re doing is going on an adventure. There’s exploration involved and we have no idea where the road we’re taking will lead us. It involves a leap of faith – and yes, Indy said that too.

So that’s my word. Adventure….What’s yours?

Thanks to Leesa for reminding me of this one…

Ha! Great word! My bestie bought the first Indiana Jones movie on DVD just before I arrived in NZ and decided we had to watch it. It’s kinda corny so long later and we had to laugh at some of the acting and characters, but I get the allure.

Even though it doesn’t reflect opportunity / positivity, I like ‘resilience’ as it’s something I seriously need to work on – in many aspects of my life.

It’s so corny, but oh so good. There’s one scene where a fly crawls across the bad guys face & into his mouth & isn’t edited out. Raiders of the Lost Ark was hubby & my first real date awwwww

Resilience is tough (no pun intended)…

Hi Kathy, we’re not sure. Maybe Twin Waters, maybe Peregian…maybe Buderim. Hubby & daughter head up in Feb (she’s going to Uni there) & I’ll head up when our house sells/settles.

Hi, I live at Coolum Beach on the Sunshine Coast and adore it. Come here! My word for this year and I’ve given it a lot of thought, is embrace. I’m trying to embrace the good and the bad and learn from them both. Hmmm, worth a shot at least.

    1. Jo says:

Coolum is one of the suburbs on my list, so thanks for that! Embrace- such a fabulous inclusive word…& absolutely worth a shot.
