Friday Five…and something about painting…and tennis…

IMG_1696 So anyways, this week has been characterised by pain. The sort of pain that comes with sound effects. Muscle pain. More specifically muscle pain that comes from going up and down a step ladder a million and thirty six times, bending down to get paint from a tray and repeating the process. Yes, I started the big painting job. I got Miss 17’s room completely finished- I’ll pop some photos up once I hang her pictures back up. Her room started with cream walls and a turquoise feature, and is now a serene combo of white and the palest almost Dior-ish blue-grey. The stripes in the pics above were a result of us trying to find the perfect, softest blue. I also got and a couple of coats on one side of the hall, and the kitchen. By the end of this weekend the remaining paint stripes should be gone (see below). IMG_1702 I figure there’s another couple of weekends work to finish the family room, TV room and hallway….along with touching up skirting boards. Then I have the lounge and dining rooms to do and one other bedroom. This is why hubby jokes that painting our house is a little like painting the Harbour Bridge- I’m never actually finished. In more exciting news, we’re in the middle of planning a massive road trip around Britain to coincide with Miss 17 finishing school. I’ll tell you more about it separately, but it’s something we’ve been saying we’d do at the end of this year almost since she started school. It’s hard to believe that it’s almost here now. My husband is Scottish born, but the last time we were over there was almost 20 years ago- September-November 1995. That time we spent some time in a car in Britain, and did a 4 week bus tour through Europe. It now feels so long ago that it feels as though this will be the first time- if that makes sense. Ok, to the week that was… What I’m watching… I’ve finally caught up on the last couple of episodes of The Newsroom, Series 2. Yes, I’m running behind. Mac and Will…sigh… I’ve also said goodbye to Phryne and Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries for the time being. I’m so glad Phryne and Jack finally pashed, but really hope there’s a series 4. I want to see them together. Gotta love a happy ending. From the not so happy ending files- depending on which side of politics you fall- was Sarah Ferguson’s incredible story of the Rudd-Gillard years, The Killing Season. I love a good political drama, and this was powerful television. What I’m looking forward to watching… Ok, don’t throw anything at me, but hubby is out tonight and Miss 17 and I are planning a mac cheese and movie night with The Shawshank Redemption. I’ve never seen it before. Yes, really. What I’m absolutely not watching… Wimbledon. I just can’t get into the tennis. I think it’s got something to do with how it doesn’t have a set (no pun intended) end time. It finishes when it finishes. I like my sport to have designated time periods. It helps with planning. Those games that go on and flipping on would do my head in. Apologies if you’re a tennis fan. What I’m writing… Not much. My head has been full of anxious partition related stuff that I’m having difficulty separating from. Normally I’m able to step out of the office and into the head of my characters. This week the office has stayed in my head more than usual. Hopefully a weekend of painting will exhaust me enough physically to make that happen. What I should have written… July horoscopes. They’re late…again. I’ll write them this afternoon while I’m at the hairdressers doing the grey removal thing…maybe…
