Operation Excess Baggage Week 14- Back in Step

IMG_0364

There’s nothing like a culinary challenge to get the creativity flowing- and this week that was inspired by the generosity of my lime tree.

Our evening meals all week have all included lime- in some way. It’s been mindfully healthy- despite the pic of the vodka, lime and soda above! We’ve been to Thailand, Vietnam and Mexico- all through the pages of my cookbooks.

There’s been some misses (none of us were impressed with the pork tacos from the Jamie Oliver website), but mostly hits. The favourite for this week was a lemongrass marinated pork chop served with rice and Vietnamese dressing from Adam Liaw’s Asian After Work. There were no photos taken, but if I get around to it, I’ll post the recipe.

Given that the tree is still providing, lime week will carry through to a second week. I’m already looking forward to Vietnamese pork patties…and that glazed salmon dish from Spirit House’s Hot Plate that was such a hit last Lime Week.

What I’m loving…

My morning walks. Now that daylight saving has finished, it’s light enough for me to get back into it, and I’m really enjoying the headstart it gives me to the day. Work is chaotic, so my morning walk is that one little piece of sanity and thinking time- and a tick in the box.

What I’m contemplating…

A major walking challenge…possibly the Bloody Long Walk in October- Palm Beach to Manly… How hard can it be? Watch this space…

What I’m looking forward to…

Doing the Coogee to Bondi walk with Miss 17 tomorrow. Hmmm, there’s a definite theme happening here.

What I’m reading…

I’ve just finished re-reading Angela Savage’s Behind the Night Bazaar. It makes a lovely change from the proof reading I’m busily doing for my own book- I’m so not good with details…

What I’m watching…

I’ve just finished binge watching the latest series of Dr Blake on the ABC. Craig McLachlan has been fabulous in it…next week I get to see him being fabulous in fishnets and heels. Hint: it’s just a jump to the left…

I envy you your walking habit. I know if I even did 10mins – which I could maybe manage without getting shin splints or sore back / hip, I’d feel better. Oh and your cooking if course. I def envy you that!

lol…my back was killing me by the end of last week. The strain of my tummy & not enough core exercise, I suspect! I’m prone to shin splints, so walk at my own pace these days & don’t try to rush it.
