I made this- the fairy looking lead-light figure in the window of my office.
I first started doing the glass thing because I loved the colours, the clarity, the potential to create something flowing.
I dabbled first in lead lighting, but that seemed heavier somehow and ripped my fingers up and left them black and manky. The glass foil seemed more delicate, but my fingers got just as cut up.
I cut every teeny little piece of glass and shaped it until it was smooth and fitted the pattern. I then lined each piece with foil, soldered it all together, and then polished it all up.
Ultimately though, I’m not great with detail, and glass work required a lot of fine detail. So by the end of it, was so over little faffing pieces of glass that I never picked up another piece.
